HIS Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16

i put everything in there and all the other stuff connected all to the psu turned on the computer and nothing happens on the computer screen. But the fan thats on the video card is ru nning. im using my old HDD cuz i didnt want to buy a new OS i have windows XP on it. do i need to delete anything on the HDD or is there something wrong with the video card?|||Try a live boot CD. Look into Ubuntu (linux) or something to see if the problem is just that your OS doesn't like being set to all old stuff and then suddenly every little piece that it 'talks' to is completely different. That could be your problem.

Another problem is that your OS is likely not 64 bit, which means that it cannot support all the RAM you have in there. If you've got a 32 bit system, it can only handle I think 4 gigs total (by handle i mean map) and you have five listed there, not including little bits and pieces on the mobo for sound/usb/etc. So your OS could just be mapping all your actual RAM before it gets to your video ram, and then there's no space left. Try with just one stick in, that might help?

Either way, I suggest you INSTALL an OS rather than just plugging one in and hoping that it works. Especially on a sexy new computer.

P.S. Ubuntu is FREE =]|||well that's your problem. you need to wipe the hard drive.

Microsoft assigns a special key on your hard drive that means you can only use your operating system with the specific motherboard configuration that it was installed on. if you change it, you need to call Microsoft and ask for a new key.|||IF the motherboard has onboard graphics, you need to connect the monitor to it. Boot up, install the new card software and driver, shut down, install the card, plug the monitor into the new card and reboot.

COOLTD! I wouldnt trust you to fix me a sandwich let alone a pc!|||the second guy is right, its a driver problem you need to make sure you have downloaded drivers before putting the card in not the other way around. my computer would freeze until i updated that driver.|||The person that said the things about wiping the hard drive is correct - what you do after you wipe it is call microsoft and tell them you upgraded everything, and they will give you a new CD key to use for free so you don't have to buy a new one. If you don't have the CD you can borrow someone else's disk to install as long as you use the key they give you. and also if you don't have the disk - make sure you get your original key code before you wipe and call - don't use the persons you borrowed the disk from - you can usually find it on your computer case, but since yours is custom you can use majicjellybean and it will tell you your CD key.
