Video Card Problem!!!?

I have a Alienware M5500i-r3. I got it from my uncle as a gift since he got a new PC, but im having problems with the video card, or the drivers. The card is a nvidia geforce go 7600. It was just replaced before i got the pc im told, but i cant seem to get it to work properly. When I install the drivers for the card that i download from the nvidia site the computer restarts windows boots up then after the loading bar for the boot up disappears the screen goes black and if i leave it running on the black screen it crash dumps. At first i thought that it was a problem with the driver being compatible with my OS. so I installed XP, but after doing so it did the same thing. So i reinstalled Windows Vista, but as long as i don't install the driver for the vid card the computer does fine except the limitations from not having the proper drivers installed. I took the computer apart to look at the card and there no obvious signs of damage, and there's no other video cards installed in it no on-board cards nothing. So i know that the vid card is working just not properly, i have tried everything i can think of and nothing is working. Any help well be appreciated even if its just advice on were to purchase a new card and what my options are. thank you.|||Did you install the drivers for the mobile 7600 or the 7600 for desktop systems? did you select a 32bit operating system or a 64bit operating system?. You need to check out what operating system your using. Go to "Computer Shortcut" and then go to "System Properties" to find out what OS your using.|||Did it run ok with Windows XP? Stay away from Vista..
