Motherboard or video card problem?

my sisters computer powers up but the screen is blank, the keyboard's cap lock/num lock blinks(once) when power is turned on, but the monitor dosent detect anything, its not the monitor, but its either the motherboard or video card help me.|||if the computer has an onboard VGA or other output, remove the video card and plug it in to that, but from what it sounds, it would be a motherboard problem, if it was the videocard it would make other noises and sounds, you just wouldn't see the stuff, I had that happen to a PC I had once sounds like the same thing.|||it could be much more than that, power supply could be bad or bad hard drive, does it shut off?|||mother board can, can you get to the bios screen?

if the auto detect screen comes up keep hitting the key to enter the bios setting (f1 or f2 i think). and see under the vgasettings if your card is working.

or

if you have on board video and is using a Video card throught AGP ot PCI express take it out and see if it works with on board video, and if you are using the on board video get a video card from somewhere and see if it works if neither work its the MB|||Well try switching video cards before you change motherboards. If you have a modem in the machine you might wanna remove that as well.|||i repaired a coomputer yesterday, same problem, cooler was not enough fixed.... try components in adifferent computer....|||lol easy question...no worries..its not the motherboard or video card problem...

just remove the RAM, u would see a copper strip at the bottom...just take a erazer(soft 1) and gently try to erase the scales formed...due to dust on the RAM..and fix it properly..lol..

The dust or scales form on RAM due to moisture and whether changes..its just a symptom...of RAM..just try it dude..|||First of all, I would suggest removing and then replacing the video card, as sometimes the video card can become slightly unseated in the slot just enough to prevent it from working.

Second, I would suggest trying another video card that you know works... do you have another one you can try (perhaps by borrowing it from another computer temporarily) or one you can borrow to try out?

I'm assuming when you say the monitor doesn't detect anything that it never comes out of sleep mode (i.e. the light never changes over to a steady green).

BTW, it is most certainly *not* the ram. That would produce a whole different set of symptoms, namely, the monitor would initialize but you wouldn't get a boot screen and your motherboard might start giving off beeps.
