PC.... video card problem with XP?

recently i got oblivion for the PC, while i was playing it, the screen froze and blue and purple checkered boxes covered the screen. then my computer restarts and then yellow lines appear across the very first starting screen. but before the log in screen it all ways reboots. i think it has to do with the video card or a virus. Windows XP|||If your only playing oblivion when it happens then it's obviously a video card problem. Without knowing what your video card specs are it's hard to say. http://www.systemrequirementslab.com Go here and make sure everything checks out. If it does, then it could be something else, like a power supply or overheating. Email me if you can't figure it out. Good Luck!|||Sounds like the video card is either overheating or failing. Make sure its fan still works. Make sure its heatsink (and your case) is not clogged with dust. If that fails, you'll probably need to replace the video card.|||Fried video card!|||That's not really quite enough information to be 100% certain, but it would be worth investigating if your video card overheated and became damaged. Can you see the BIOS config screen, or is the video scrambled from startup?

If you pirated your copy of oblivion, it could be a virus. Unhook your network connections and boot your computer from a restore disc. If the restore program comes up without video errors, a virus is probably the cause and you'll have to take steps from there to repair your computer.|||Hm... Sounds like it could be a number of things.

1) It could be pushing it's limits if it is an older card - Oblivion was pretty intense for it's time.

2) It is over heating because of step 1), or it has dust causing overheating

3) The VRAM or voltage regulators are bonking out. When I overclock some cards they will start doing that.

What make is your card?|||the fan on the card is running dry you need to place the fan itself, eventually it will stop spinning causing more overheating issues
