Am I having a video card problem?

I was playing an online game last night when it froze. Windows and ctrl+alt+del all froze. So I did a hard shut down from on/off button. When I rebooted, windows came up properly but there was no video. I switched monitors, still no video. Is it possible my video card blew out? I found no signs of distress when I opened it up.|||How did you know that Windows came up properly if there was no video???

Did you see the bios stuff at the start? If you did, then there was video, if not then you may well have a bad card. But since you can't see it, how do you know that it was really coming up? If you could see it, then the card is probably not bad. If you couldn't see it, then it might be something else, such as the motherboard. You don't really know.

Okay, if you can see the bios stuff, can you boot into safe mode (hit F8 or whatever your computer tells you to do)? If you can see safe mode, but you couldn't see the main Windows screen, then you have a driver problem. You need to download the latest driver for your video card and install it according to its directions.

If you can't boot into safe mode, but can still see the bios stuff, then it looks like Windows is bad. Try to put in the Windows disk and tell it to do a repair.

If you can't see anything at all, then remove the video card. Lightly use an eraser on all the contacts, and re-insert. Maybe it will work now.

If you still can't see anything, then you have to troubleshoot. Trying a different video card or using yours on another computer is one way of troubleshooting the video card and will answer definitively whether the problem is the video card or not. It might be all sorts of problems, including the motherboard and cpu.|||well if you heard sound and there was no video the screen was completely black only "no signal" showed up then yes you blew your video card i would sugest buying one for around 50 dollars if yours blew during and online game it has to be bad so even one for 20 dollars would be a big improvement gewt nvidea or ati randeon|||yes it's possible.

To check, use a different video card, or use this video card on another computer.
