64bit Vista video card problem?

When it comes to computers im pretty savvy but this has me stumped, I recently partitioned my HD to be able to install windows vista ultimate (64bit) after my windows xp. This installation worked flawlessly but vista just does not want to recognize my video card, I now dont have access to aero, and when I try updating the drivers they say Im running the uninstaller on a 64 bit when it should be 32, so I tried and downloaded the vista 32bit driver but that just reversed the saying of the message recieved earlier. I just need to know how to get vista to recognize this card (EVGA 8800gts G92) and if the drivers used on my first OS (XP) are interferring with this installation?|||could be interfring i wouldrun belarc to see the specs and go form there, how about shutting it down and reinstalling it manually! sure its hooked up good?

Can you fix my video card problem...?

I have a Dell XPS 600. I was running dual 6800's in SLI and I just bought a 8600GT. I have done the research and should have no issues using the card. Well, I put the new card in, and whether I use VGA, DVI, or S-Video to connect it to my monitor, it just DOESN'T pick it up! I can hear the PC go into windows, but my monitor stays in powersave mode. I've already set up the drivers for the nvidia 8 series card. Does anyone know what the problem is? Is my card fried? Thanks in advance for the help.|||You should use same model of graphics card to be able to configure SLI. You said you're using 6800 and bought 8600, that would not work.

You said you've done your research, I guess you missed something. Check this site:

Video card PROBLEM HUGE PROBLEM?

it is making a buzzing noise when it turns on. I am planning on getting a new video card anyways in about a month. but my concern is that if this video card fan has something happen to it, then it is going to cascade and then the next thing i know, my entire computer is broken.

do computers have safety mechanisms in place so that if a part like the video card fan breaks then it wont screw up my whole computer?|||Make sure it's nothing easily fixable like a wire rubbing against the fan.

If the fan goes, your video card will overheat and crash the system. It won't damage the other components, however.|||you're computer will be fine, it the card breaks run your computer in VGA graphics and you'll still be able to use it, it will just not run anything even vaguely graphically demanding, but its just a fan after all, you would need to replace it straight away if it does break because you'll more than likely burn out your card, but they're pretty weak little things, its like breaking a nail and assuming that you're going to break a bone because of it.|||if it breaks then the rest of the computer will be fine|||If your video card gets damaged then dont worry, ur PC will still be alright. You will just need 2 replace it.

Need help with video card (?) problem.?

Recently purchased an HP Computer, AMD Athlon 64X2 processor 6000+ 3.00 GHZ; 3 gb RAM; 32- bit OS (Vista); NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 graphics card with 128 mb dedicated memory and 1,200 mb shared memory; and an LG 21.6" widescreen monitor.

On occassion, the computer briefly stalls, then a diagonal pattern shows on the monitor ... and everything freezes ... Only way to recover is turning off, then rebooting. The times this has happened, I was watching the TV (media center computer), and using a graphics program (PSP); OR playing a casual video game with 3d graphics. Which leads me to believe the problem is the video card.

My Questions ... video card problem or something else?

If video card ... it is a defective card, or just one that is insufficient for my uses?

Thanks for any help, input and advice!

.|||First thing first, try updating the drivers at www.nvidia.com. Also update windows. If the problem persist, it maybe more serious than a driver problem and would contact HP regarding it.|||Check if the heatsink for the graphics chipset is seated correctly, sounds like a common heat issue that i've seen happen often, if you don't know which heatisnk is for the graphics chipset, just check them all. check the thermal interface compound on them, too. There should be a thin layer on both the heatsink and the chip. Good luck with your problem.|||HI

Also, be sure to ID your motherboard to see what graphics slot it has; AGP or PCIeX16. You may also have to upgrade your power supply - you need at least 450W to run an even moderate graphics card , 650W on the higher performance ones.|||I agree with the people. ATI FIREMV 2250 1x 256mb Video Card problems.?

I installed this card hoping to get some decent resolution and a tad bit more power out of my dated computer. I had a GeForce 5200 in my computer previously. The resolution on my GeForce (displayed on a Samsung 32" LCD TV) was not too shabby. I installed this new card and everything is now blurry and all the colors are washed out.

I updated the drivers and ensured all cables were in correctly. The resolution goes much much higher than the 5200 (1920 x 1080) but it is so blurry and washed out I feel like I am using a monitor from 1996 or something.

Is there anything I can do that I may not have tried yet? I have the most up to date drivers, disabled all other gfx card (even integrated ones) and have it hooked into the HDMI slot on my TV.

The only thing that comes to mind is I am using a DVI to HMDI converter cable to connect to the TV. The card has a DCI out and the TV has an HDMI in. As far as I recall HDMI and DVI use the exact same signal.

Help?|||The FIREMV 2250 is a workstation card, first and foremost. The Geforce 5200 it replaced was a gaming card. If you are trying to play games on that card, simply don't. It was not designed for running games.

If the FireMV cards are anything like Radeons, then it's possible that you need to go into the display options for the card to change the HDTV support option. You might also need to adjust the overscan/underscan option.

If it still doesn't look right, try plugging it into a VGA monitor. If it looks proper through the VGA connection, then it might just be that you can't display through HDMI into your TV.

My Radeon HD 4770 can't display properly through HDMI as well. I'm also using a DVI>HDMI adapter, but that should be no problem since others have used DVI>HDMI adapter successfully with graphics cards. It's either the card, or the TV, and since I'm not the only one who has had these problems with AMD cards, then it leads me to believe it's a hardware/software problem, and not the cables or the TV.

Video card problems and booting?

I have a 8600 gt standalone video card. Last night, i was playing a game and turned off my computer normally. The next morning, it took a long while for my computer to boot. When it actually does boot up, it ran on my integrated video card instead of my standalone one. Can anyone tell me what is going on?

My video card has worked for about a month or so before doing this. My motherboard is pci-e compatible and i have a 500 watt psu, so chances are that can't be the problem.

Also, can it also be my motherboard?

Please help me out here, thanks!

sometimes, like 1/15 times, the card would work|||I had a similar problem not too long ago. I was surfing the internet, and all of the sudden my computer froze, and the screen went black. So I pressed the reset button, and instead of booting up my computer made a series of beeps. I looked that series of beeps up on the internet, and it meant that my video card was bad. However I didn't think the card could be bad because I had bought it not too long ago. What I did to fix my problem was, I took my video card out of the slot and put it back in, and that did the trick for me. I have not had any problems since. So I would recommend that you take the video card out of the slot and put it back in again. If that doesn't work then you probably have either a bad video card, or a bad PCI-e slot. Good luck!|||Then what would happen to the bootup in that 1/15 time? I thought coin cell battery but it doesn't seem to be the case if you do have that 1/15 time thing.

My new video card problems?

I got a new video card i put in. installed the drivers, but when i play games my fps is still the same as my old card. my old card was 5000, my new one is 8600GT. and when i look at the video card name, it shows my old one. I removed it and put the new one in. wat should i do?|||Sounds like you didn't uninstall your old video card correctly. My suggestion is to, first, go to the nVidia website and download the most recent driver for your 8600GT. Then, go to device manager, and uninstall the video card. Restart the PC. It should be at a very low resolution when it comes back as there is no nVidia driver to run the card now. Then, install the 8600GT driver that you downloaded from nVidia. If it still is showing as the 5000, then you may need find where the files are and remove them manually. If you are having trouble with that, find a program like DriverCleaner to remove it and try again. Good luck, and hopefully, you won't have to restore your PC!!|||Your motherboard may have onboard video and this might be conflicting with your video card.

I'd check your motherboards manual and figure out if it does, if it does you can disable the onboard through the Bios.

Video Card PROBLEM!!!?

So I ordered a 6200 PCI video card for my friends computer. I installed it, and everything went fine. But suddenly when I was about to install the DRIVERS for the CARD, the SCREEN just suddenly turn to BLACK!!! I know it was normal bcuz this happened to me a lot of times.

But I waited for like 15 mins and nothings happening. So I rebooted the computer, and now when i'm on the BIG WINDOWS XP LOGO it will just hang/freeze there. I've restarted my computer like 10 times and still the same problem.

Help me???|||Sounds to me like it installed the XP drivers for the video card which may be addressing the card incorrectly what you might do is try booting to Safe Mode by hitting F8 as you turn the machine on and reset the video card to Standard VGA mode and install the correct drivers for the video card, but before you do this make sure to have the more current motherboard chipset drivers before installing the video card drivers, if these are too old it may not know how to correctly address the new card.

Nvidia 6200 video card problem?

I just bought a 6200 AGP card for my old computer. I installed this card today and it was working fine all day until tonight when I turned on my PC and I was watching a movie on hulu. the movie stopped playing so I exited full screen mode and it started to work again so I thought that I needed to get a better version on direct x10 so I did that and the movie played fine for another 20 min. then my video stopped again but this time my computer froze and then my screen blacked out and then all it was displaying was blue lines and then my monitor went into sleep mode. so I restarted my PC and my windows start up screen was full of blue lines and then once it got to the windows menu my screen just went blank and my monitor went back to sleep mode. So I uninstalled the drivers and took out my video card. and when I turned my PC back on windows said the system has recovered from a serous driver error. so I tried to put the card back into my computer and when I turned it on the screen was just full of blue lines. so is my video card toast?. my onbord graphics work just fine and the computer works great with out the video card. I can still return it and get another one.|||yeah that is a serious problem that i would not bother with if you can replace it. or try fixing the drivers by booting into safe mode and loading them up. if that card can boot up in safe mode with no problems then the card is fine just needs to be configured correctly. that is also a very old card why not get something like the 8400 or better. other thought is that if you have tried to overclock this card it maybe unstable. then you need to move the settings back some to make it stable and so that it does not damage or blow up the card. good luck|||Click on option 2 to get the best driver

How do I disable the card and switch it to the internal videocard? Does anyone know?|||you can disable it through hardware manager, but i would just shut off your computer, then pull out the gfx card. Plug ur VGA cord back into the onboard card and fire it back up. Then uninstall your gfx card driver for the ATI card and plan on buying a new card.

www.newegg.com have some good prices on cards

Good luck|||Remove the old card. You can't disable it. If you leave it in it will burn out and possibly burn out your motherboard and or other parts.

On most motherboards, you only need to remove the video card and connect the video cable to the port on the motherboard, then reboot. Once in windows you'll have to install the drivers for the onboard video...|||Pull the card out and plug the monitor into the other port

Does anyone know what type of video card I should purchase for my Dell Dimension 8300?

I opened up my computer and found the capacitors on the video card had burst. The video card was a NVIDIA Geforce 5200 from memory.

My friend told me I need a AGP video card and that they are almost extinct now. Is that true?

Dell told me it would take 5 weeks to get a replacement but I can't wait that long (my warranty has expired anyway).

My computer works fine except for this video card problem, which has caused the dreaded blue screen to appear on my computer.

Not sure if you'll need more details about my computer, but, as I said it's a Dell 8300 with 512MB of RAM.

I know my computer is probably ancient by today's standards but it seems a shame to just buy a new computer when it appears there's only one thing wrong with it.

If anyone could tell me what video card to buy I'd really appreciate it. Thanks|||Getting a agp isn't that bad, some are not bad at all in performance. They will be around for awhile. Your system does use the 8x agp card. The x1950 pro is the best agp card you can get, not bad at all.

The thing is the caps that are blown. Exactly what caused the overvoltage? Will it affect a new card?|||agp is still very common allthough pci express is the newest try this place the ati radeon will do if you want more go for a 256 card

Monitor/Video Card Problem - Detailed Inside?

Ok so out of nowhere my monitor has these blue and red lines blinking all over the place. If I try to put the refresh rate at 60 hz where its supposed to be, it goes ape-**** crazy and I cant even read anything on the monitor because its going nuts. But, this problem is quite weird.

I have an on-board video card, and my PCI-E video card. I also have two monitors.

The current HD monitor has the problem with the PCI-e video card, but the other monitor works perfect.

The HD monitor though, works perfectly with the on-board video card.

So I have no idea if it is a monitor problem or a video card problem, since they both work under different conditions. The HD monitor works with the on-board video perfectly, while the non-hd monitor works perfectly with the PCI-E video card.

the HD monitor will not work in 1080p at all. the screen goes crazy when I try. I have to keep it at a low refresh rate and resolution to do anything on it.

Odd. I know. Any help would be a great service.

Btw. I already tried separate drivers for the PCI-E card. I also redid my whole OS totally. So thats not it either. I'm lost. Which doesnt happen very often, lol.|||they are not compatable with each other, im guessing it is the gpu that is messing it up, if the hd monitor works, and you connect it to gpu and it is messed up, its the gpu, but are you using a hdmi cable when connecting to gpu, maybe the monitors hdmi port is messed up or the gpu hdmi is messed up|||You may have already tried these steps but this is what we would try first concerning the PCI-e card:

- Check the cable connection is pushed in all the way into monitor and card

- If you have another video cable try it

- Open up your desktop top and re-seat the card, ie, unscrew it pull it out and push it back in, screw in

- Move the card to a spare slot if you have one and try that

- Put the card in another desktop and try it - if it fails here you can be pretty sure the card itself is failing

Good luck

How do I fix this video card problem?

My boyfriend tried to download updated driver for my video card and he was able to download it and install, but when he restarted the computer the desktop icons were gone. He restarted again and this time the computer doesn't seem to be recognizing the video card at all and the monitor is not getting signal. Yes we checked to make sure all cables were seated properly....what can be the problem and how do we fix it?|||I'm no genious. Hell I just turned 14...But maybe the Files were corrupted or driver was bugged...did you try downgrading back to the driver?

Is it easy to change the video card in a Dell Inspiron 6000?

I have a blank screen on my I6000 and hooking up to an external monitor does not work. I suspect it is a video card problem. Am I right? If so how do I change it?|||It may or may not be the video card. I'm not sure how hard it is to replace; my research didn't get into that much detail, but I was able to confirm it IS replaceable, and I found a site that has 'em for $69. I don't necessarily want to endorse the site since I don't know it that well, but you should be able to find it on Google.

The real question is whether or not you want to risk $70 to find out if it's the video card.

Let me repeat this for those who are saying otherwise: the Dell Inspiron 6000 has a discrete PCI-e video adapter that can be replaced. More and more laptops nowadays are built with replaceable video adapters.|||You can't change laptop video cards|||Laptops = stuck with what you got.

Can only improve software.

Overclocking video card problems (goes back to stock settings)?

now i have a 9500gt 512mb nivdia video card, and i recently have been learing to over clock it, ive used two programs.

#1 riva tuner

#2 EVGA

and after ive done overclocking ect.. i go to play cod 7 and all runs fine, untill randomly the screen looks like it refresh's and it alt-tabs then the game lags like a jew and , i go to check if my video card settings are all good and they get set down heeps low, my core clock goes down to 200 and my shader clock down to 400... so wtf!!! plz help me|||It probably can't keep up with the speeds you're setting and reverts to lower settings to keep your card from dying. Try lowering speeds and increase in small intervals until you find a stable clock.

I'd suggest you to upgrade your videocard if you're gonna keep playing newer games, as 9500GT is getting really old. :)|||It's overheating and returning to the default settings to protect itself. For the minimal increase in performance compared to the amount of additional heat generated from oc'ing the gpu, especially with a low end card like the 9500GT, overclocking it is pointless. Do yourself a favor, buy a better card that will give you the performance you need without being overclocked.|||You're overheating the graphics card. Don't play games with an overclock until you confirm the overclock is stable under high load.

I have Video card Lag For Example

i have Solar System Screensaver and it lags alot! it gets like 3 frames per second or less

and i have a simple screensaver a 64 MB Video Card could do but it lags alot too!

Heres my Specs

Intel Pentium M 1.73 GHz Processor

Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS, 910 GML Express Chipset (128MB)

Yes it is Compatible

1528 MB RAM

Intel Centrino Mobile Technology

i even Downloaded Intel Graphics Media Accelerator For Mobile

Status:Didn't Help At All

Please Help

Thank You|||Intel do have a tendency of disabling hardware OpenGL for screensavers, try changing the case of the screensaver extension (from .scr to .SCR or something other than all lowercase) and hopefully that'll fool their drivers into allowing you to run an OpenGL screensaver.

Of course it is still possible that your graphics chip can't handle it, a lot of 64 MiB dedicated cards are faster than the Intel integrated graphics (and 128 MiB is too much RAM for the GMA900, you just won't ever be able to use it, nothing more than 16 MiB would be more sensible for that chip).

Then there's the fact that you can't upgrade to something better.|||the only thing you can do is put in more RAM. with a laptop you dont have the opting of upgrading the IGP...|||If its a 3d screensaver I doubt your video card would support it. Most intergrated card struggle with powerful screensavers.|||The only thing you can do is get more RAM. A new GPU is out of the question though.

Video card problems help?

hello i have a ATI RADEON 8500LE video card when i try to install the drivers it says i need a standard vga driver where can i get one i had given up on finding one so i downloaded a driver called omega driver which installed fine there is only one problem it says it's not singed by Microsoft and it wont enable any direct x stuff like 3d accelerator so i can't run pc games how do i get it signed so i can enable direct x so i can play pc games the os im using is windows xp sp3 if you have any instructions on how to install the real driver for my card i'll try to use those ill use anything that will make my card play pc games and is signed and if you know where to download this standerd vga thing please tell me thx|||1. standard vga thing is default drivers of the operating system.

2. if it is saying you've to install standard vga thingy first, then enter safe mode, uninstall all ati stuff you have in your os, including all drivers.

3.reboot to normal, again do cleanup of vga drivers, then xp will say it found a new vga card and it is installing "standard vga thingy" :-)

4. then install drivers from your ati cd which came with card.

5. if this doesn't work, best way is to reinstall xp and start from scratch.

Could my computer have a sudden video card problem?

I play this game called Flyff and on my computer I have 2.5MB of RAM Decent processor and about 40GB of free space on an 80GB hard-drive, The game used to run fine but after I took a couple of weeks for a break it's suddenly extremely laggy and overall unplayable.. Could there be a problem with my video card? I have defragged which showed a bit of improvement but not enough to make the game playable again. As a side note my computer has never shown any error whatsoever on my video card everything seems to be in order.|||It is unlikely that your video card just stopped working well. Perhaps they did an update with higher res textures. You may also want to mess with the video settings. Another thing it could be is if before you were playing in smaller maps or whatever and now your playing in larger maps, your card may not be able to cope. Another thing it could be is background processes. You may want to check for bloatware running in the background and delete them. My guess is probably background processes. Check that everything is closed before running the game. Best of luck!

Video Card Problem, need help!!!!?

How can I know what's the kind of my video card (for windows XP); somewhere in Control Panel? I've search everywhere but just can't find information about my video card.

For the sims 3 players: I need a 128 MB video card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0(for the sims 3, coz I bought the game but it just doesn't work on my computer because of the video card), where can I buy this video card and how much it costs?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!|||Do you have a desktop or a laptop? If you have a laptop we can't help you, you'd need to buy a whole new computer as you can't change the graphics card in a laptop.

To find out what your present graphics card is, click the start menu and select "Run...". Type "dxdiag" into the box that appears and click "OK". It will bring up a new window; click on the "Display" tab, and the name of your graphics card will be listed next to "Name:" and "Chip Type:" in the "Device" section.|||You can check device manager in the control panel, system, hardware.Or Use a free program like Aida32, that will tell you what you have.

But check online at buy.com, newegg, or techbargains for the best value on new hardware.

Prices for good cards vary from $35 to hundreds.

Radeon video card problem...?

I bought a radeon 6570 video card last night so i dint have time to play with it but today when i tried it it seemed slow so i went to "Can you run it" and it told me that my 1g video card only had ~751mb of video ram is this normal?|||Presuming you are on windows 7, go to start and search for dxdiag.

Open that, then go to the Graphics/Display tab and see how much Approx.Total Memory is.

Mine is 4GB, but thats because I have 1GB of video RAM and 3GB of shared RAM.

Video card problem whit mu?

i like to play mu but the game run slowly i got a S3 Graphic ProSavage DDR (32mb) and i got a frind that have the same video card of mine (S3 Graphic ProSavage DDR of 32mb)

and he can play mu perfectly so if some one know the reason plz post i can even play :(|||Your graphic card may not support it. May be taking it from your memory, thats why it could be running slow.|||Don't have enough info to help. What's your and his processor like? How much normal RAM do you have? What is mu? What's the speed of your hard drive. There's about a million reasons your computer could be going slower than him (one of which could be that a 32mb graphic card is a really awful card).

Video card problem?

I just got a fairly simple looking "Family Feud" game for my computer, but I can't get it to run. It's requirements include several items that I know I have, plus "DirectX 9.0c compatible 3D video accelerator card with 64 MB RAM".

I don't know much about the whole video card thing. I bought a Dell E310 within the last year. It has a Pentium 4 3.0 GHz w/HT technology. The only thing I can find about video is under "Display Adapters" and it lists "Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family".

What does all this mean, and is this the reason I can't get the game to run?|||Directx 9.0c is not supported by all video cards, mostly only newer ones with Shader Model 3.0 in them. Although many new cards do have shader Model 3.0 (which is required to run Microsoft's new OS, Windows Vista), some of them are not DirectX 9.0c capable, but only DirectX 9.0. If this is the case with your video card, then it might be the reason you cannot run this game. In about four years or so, newer games will only be able to be run by graphics cards that are capable of running DirectX 10, so many people will have to upgrade their video cards.

Best thing you can do is update all your drivers from Microsoft's site and hope it works, but if your card does not support directx 9.0c, you might be out of luck. Hope all goes well though.|||Read the side of the box it sould tell u what kind of video card u should have. Your computer may be to powerful to run it if it is an old game, cause i have had that problem with older games.|||While that particular video chipset does have some limitations, from my experience they involve Valve's Source Engine (for Half-Life 2). My wife's computer has that same video chipset, and it plays many modern games with little trouble. If my memory serves, the 82915g has 128mb of memory, which is double what your game requires.

The first step would be to go to Intel's website and download the latest driver. After you install it, restart your computer and try again. If it still doesn't work and gives you an error code, that will probably be very helpful in determining the source of trouble, but most likely it won't be your video card.|||Search and install the DirectX 9 drivers. If that works you should be set. The video adapter being quoted is the 915 bridge chip on your motherboard. You are likely to need to purchase a separate video accelerator card for your machine (also called a video card). Check your motherboard to see what kind of connectors it supports:

PCI (of course)

AGP?

PCIe?

You can get a PCI video card, but an AGP or PCIe version would give you better performance. Check you owners manual for the motherboard or Dell's site.

Is this a power supply issue or video card problem?

My computer is running great. The problem i have now is all of a sudden my computer monitor goes dead as if it has lost power. my computer still has power. The strange thing is I unplug computer from ac power and let it sit for a few minutes. I then reconnect and computer works. This shut down does not have any time frame. It can run for hours with no problems, then sometimes after 30 minutes I get this shut down. When the shut down happens my case is still getting power. The case fans, the fan on video card, fan over processor card all still running. restarting computer doesn't help. Video Card Problem?

I had a video card problem with my computer a few months ago and had to replace it. Now my computer is acting up again. When it goes into standby, it won't come out of it. I CANNOT have another computer problem! What can I do to keep my computer from getting worse?|||What Chickster said but you could go into the power management control panel and turn off sleep mode.|||I think your inner tower is getting to hot. you may need to try a better case with more airflow or you will have to open the side of your case and place a big fan next to it. If neither of these work you may have a wiring problem with the power supply and you are not getting enough power to the right areas.|||Try cleaning the computer, and power supply out, with a can of compressed air first.|||Either connect an new power supply PLUG into your harddrive or buy a new harddrive....its not the video card, that is if you have the correct updates to its driver. Sorrry... well you could also just turn it off.....

New video card problems?

I bought a Powercolor HD 2400 Pro for my Dell E310. It has done what I wanted which was allow me to play pretty much any game out right now such as Crysis and World in Conflict. However, as my gaming performance has increased drastically, just general use has gone down. Such as when I'm browsing the internet, scrollling down pages will do a refreshing motion downwards (like if you don't have drivers installed). I have tried Chrome, IE, and Firefox and they all do it, with and without smoothscrolling. Its not so bad on pages without much going on, but sites such as youtube, bungie.net, and others are terrible and my cpu usage is thru the roof. I have the latest drivers installed for XP and I have tried reverting the the CD drivers but nothing helps. Any ideas?|||Scan for Malwares, Virus etc?

Video card problem need help fast?

Im having problems with a game a have for my computer. When ever i try to play it something comes up and says that this game does not support my video card. What can i do to fix this.|||You have two options :

1.Do not play that game, so you won't have any problem.

2. Get a new video card that will support the game you would like to play !|||What card? what game? did you update the cards drivers? did you try to seek help from the makers of the game?|||If your video card is not a common one (not ATI or nVidia) most games will not support it. There is nothing you can do about that. However, if you do have a video card that is made by ATI or nVidia, and it is posting that error, either you do not meet the requirements, or possibly need an updated driver, which can usually be obtained from the corporate website for which card you have.

Every Microsoft Windows operating system has a registry. Your system registry holds a wealth of information about your computer, which is why we constantly hear from users that after using their PC for a short length of time, it no longer works the way it used to. This is due in part to invalid entries that exist in your system registry, that might exist because of software you are no longer using or software that was not properly removed. By removing these invalid entries, you can significantly increase the performance of your PC.

As far as gaming, yes that's your killer. as far as word / document processing, it wont slow that down. If by "Computer" you mean menu's and programs (other than gaming), your biggest problem there is RAM.

the ECS Kt600 is a good board, i used to have one. Pairing that with 512 ram and a 64MB video is very weak. =\|||If your computer is slow in general, you can try adding more RAM to gain performance.|||Do the math. If you are doing something that requires 512MB, and you have 64MB, you have a slower PC.

PC Video card problem?

I have recently bought a new motherboard, an ECS AM2, with Ge Force 6100 integrated video card. I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ CPU and a Ge Force 7600 GS external video card.

I have installed Windows XP sp 2 with the Ge Force 7600 GS plugged in and when I tried to download latest drivers from Nvidia I had this problem: The drivers got installed but then Windows started without any icons or desktop taskbar. I could only right click and open new folders or notepad etc.

I have unplugged the external Video Card and used the integrated one. But this one appeared in Device Manager as uninstalled. Don't they use the same Nvidia drivers?

SAPPHIRE 100253HDMI Radeon HD 4650 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Low Profile.......is this a good gaming card? thank you im giving out best answers|||If you're interested mostly in gaming, the 4670 is 2X faster than the 4650 for only about $15 more...

The 4650 isn't really a gaming card, but can do ok with older games like Starcraft, and stuff like the Sims.

Do you have a slimline computer which only takes low-profile cards? If so, take a look at the low-profile GeForce 9600GT.|||for quality go for a nVidia 9600GT|||It's better than integrated graphics, if that's what you're currently using. Just don't expect greatness, it's a lower level card. If your decision to use a low profile graphics card is because you have a slim tower or small form factor desktop, then that's the right card to get. Those systems usually have a 300W or less power supply that is either proprietary or a TFX form factor which would mean that the option for a power supply upgrade in order to use a more powerful card is almost nonexistent. If your power supply is 300W or more, the HD 4650 will be ok. If your power supply is less than 250W you'll want to use an HD 4550, it only draws 25W compared to the 4650's 55W.

http://www.upgraderguides.com/hwdb.php?t…

The graphics card that you can use is determined by the power supply you have. If upgrading the power supply isn't an option, you have to get a card that will be compatible with the power supply that you have.

thanks|||you need to add a decent graphics card - you are using on motherboard graphics, which just won't do from gaming.

Also, be sure to ID your motherboard to see what graphics slot it has; AGP or PCIeX16. You may also have to upgrade your power supply - you need at least 450W to run an even moderate graphics card , 650W on the higher performance ones.|||I agree with the people. You need more RAM. 1 GB simply doesn't cut it anymore. I think I see the problem. YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO VIDEO RAM. Excuse me for shouting, but 64 MB is too little. www.protonic.com is an online community that provides technical support to computer users for free. We prefer to call our users "Clients," because we have the philosophy that, despite our service being free, you should still receive the highest quality technical support.

Tell them as much possible information about your computer and the video card.|||To be sure it is the video card and not the monitor -

Plug the monitor into another PC to prove that.

Check the cable is fully inserted in the Video Card plug

Check to make sure the card is inserted in the slot of the pc fully - they can work loose with heat etc.

Do all the above with pc OFF of course.

If you prove the monitor then replace the video card.

If you still have a problem , then your mainboard has a problem.|||The simplest way to do this without replacing something unneccessarily is to try the monitor as well as the video card on another computer. If the monitor works on another computer, see if you can locate another computer that your video card will fit in. This way you can eliminate the monitor or the video card as the issue. The monitor works but the video card doesn't, replace it. If the video card works in another system, you're definetly going to need to replace your motherboard.|||Open your PC, be sure that your video card have:

- A fan

- Sufficient Power supply

- The right video card driver

- Compatible to your PC

- Model of your video card

- Handled when packaging

If any of this is bad have it replaced by costumer service.|||OK, first of all, how did you "test" the monitor? If you just see the green colored light, it isn't a sure sign that the monitor is working correctly. If it's colored orange, this means nothing is supplying signals to the monitor. This means either the video card is broken or the connection between the video card to the monitor has been broken.

Also, when a video card isn't working correctly, your computer should produce repeated sounds when it is turned on, if it doesn't, then more than likely it's working correctly and you need to check other problems, such as cabling.

Open up your case and just look at what it does. Also, if you have graphic and CPU temperature software you can monitor the temperature of those components after about 20 min of gameplay.

Your problem could also be caused by faulty RAM. If you have multiple RAM modules you can take out a module and test it by running WoW until it crashes. Test all RAM modules and also test different RAM slots.

Laptop Video Card Problems?

my laptop, a Gateway T-1625 came with a Radeon X1270 onboard Gpu, it can run games like Half Life 2 and CS Source Pretty smoothly but my problem with it is that every minute or so the game loses FPS dramatically. It happens with every game i have, what could be causing this? Should i reinstall the Drivers?|||Reinstalling drivers would be a good idea. You could also go into the settings and turn down some of the fine details such as anti-aliasing and vertical sync (or switch the mode from quality side to performance side)

You might also want to check if you have any background programs that are running scans/updating indexes/eating up cpu.

You can try to figure out what's sucking up all your CPU by opening up the taskmanager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC for Vista/ALT+CTRL+DEL for XP), going to the "Processes" tab, Pressing "Show Processes from All Users", and sorting by "CPU" or "Memory."

Watch for what programs use the most (Higher CPU value means more perecntage of the total cpu it is using - which usually but does not always correlate to the Memory use amount). From here, you can tell what is using up your memory and you can act accordingly by adjusting the settings of those programs, etc.

I would highly advise that you DO NOT "End Processes" randomly. Do not "End Process" unless you know exactly what program is running and how it will affect your computer.

If you need to figure out what it is, right click the Image name and select "Go to Service(s)" or "Open File Location." Again, do not delete/end any of these unless you are sure of what you are doing.|||On board GPUs are aways a bad idea. They basically share memory with the system so are aways slower. Best thing is to buy a laptop with a dedicated one. Other than that nothing much can be done. You could try investigate what happens to your memory and/or gpu performance with a test utility. or you could check this site out http://www.notebookcheck.net/Comparison-… and see how your gpu fares. Video card problems?

I have an AMD +2800 CPU, 1.5 gigs of ram, and an nVidia 7800 GS card. The card is AGP, but right now the system is recognizing it as a pci card. I was told to uninstall the chipset drivers, and reinstall the vidcard drivers. I dont know exactly what to do though, so Im looking for simple detailed instructions... ie:remove vid card driver, remove chipset driver, reinstall motherboard driver, excluding onboard video (i dont know how), and then install vid card finally. I think its something like that, but Im not sure. Please dont tell me to check my bios, etc. I know specifically what I need, and it is to be told in which order and what drivers i need to remove and replace.|||By what you are saying I think you need to:

1. Go to the Nvidia website and download the latest drivers for your video card.

2. Check in add and remove programs to see if you have drivers installed there and just remove them.

3. Reboot your comp.

4. Install the new drivers you downloaded.

5. Reboot your comp

6. You should be good.

Most of these instructions are on the Nvidia website when you get the drivers under installation tips, just go there and read them if you need more help or just ask me.

Video Card Problems... Maybe?

Ok i have an Alienware Laptop M15X. I have just recently had problems playing games... i can play the games but they are all running very choppy even on low setting... all my games.. WoW i could play at ultra.. now have to play on low... Dragon Age.... before was great no lag... now is stuttering everywhere..... even Civ5....same problems.. so i know its not a specific game... now its a hardware problem... and im not all knowing about m laptop and its VC is NVIDIA GeFORCE GT 240M.... Its about a Year and a half old...... so if someone could help me out .. if i need a new VC or is it a problem somewhere else like processors..."hope not"......|||try redownloading and reinstallin your nvidia drivers.

note: before uninstalling your current video drivers, make sure you delete the nvidia folder in c: nvida

and also, try cleaning your pc (start> program> accessories> system tools> disk cleanup)

and run a virus scan

and then do a disk defragment (start> program> accessories> system tools> disk defragment)

and if you want, you can use a third party software that can do a registry clean

personal recommendations are advanced system care and ccleaner

now, your la.p.top should be running good as new. if it fails to fix the problem, then yeah, it's hardware and get you laptop to alienware and have it fixed|||I have no idea about this topic........

Video card, problems with 3d graphics. tearing and "glitching"?

I have a problem that happens to every other game I play. Most games that are heavy on 3d graphics, things in the games will stretch or tear across the screen.

and it gets worse when I play the actual game, not the demo.

I've checked the video acceleration, tested 3d draw and all that stuff. I've heard of boosting the power to my card, but I'm not sure how, I couldnt find it in the bios.

And I dont know how to check if its over heating, although I'm sure its not.

I would REALLY appreciate any help.|||Make sure your video drivers are up to date - check on the video card manufacturer's website.|||Your video card is artifacting, which usually means one of 2 things. Either its overheating, or its about to die...i'll take your word when you say it's not overheating...so it must just be on it's way out...it's an old card anyway...they don't last forever.

Help with my video card problems?

if my computer only accepts PCI video cards, and i put an AGP card in it, will it burn my computer?

even though i didnt install the agp card in it. please help!|||It could possibly cause a short on your motherboard. But if it boots up then you should be fine. The technology is different so you won't be able to see anything let alone let the computer install the hardware.

I would go back and get the right card.|||you have to change mother board for that?buy a board which have these slots|||Your PC must first have an AGP slot before you install it as it won't fit any other type of socket ie. PCI-E or PCI, only AGP. So no, it won't burn your PC because you won't be able to fit it in. However, if you do have this slot by all means use it as it's faster than PCI.

So I got a video card from Galaxy, Nvidia Geforce, and today I cleaned up my pc because it was making strange sounds because of the dirt and after cleaning it all inside everything started well but the video card cooler won't start and it leads the pc to crash :( and now after a lot of rebooting I get the blue screen of death sometimes too !! what can I do to get the video card cooler roll again ? :(|||while cleaning your pc some parts may have coming loose.

shutdown your pc and remove the power cord. then reseat the ram modules and the graphics card. also check that little cable on the graphics card that connects the fan to the board itself, maybe it is loose or no longer plugged.

check also the power cables from the psu to the drives and the data cables going from the motherboard to the drives. finally check the 2 main power plugs on the motherboard, the big 24pin plug and the 4/8pin plug next to the cpu.

if all this doesn't help i suspect you might have damaged something severely.|||sounds like the cooler has died you gonna need to send in card to get fixed or get a replacement card.

So I restarted to see if that hellps but it didnt, the screen is tons of colors all over. So I took out my video card and using the defult card thats in there. any help please?|||Either your video card is defective or you need to flash the BIOS or you need to rollback any pertinent driver. Also, you can try cleaning out the fans. Unfortunately, the problem that you have described is, most likely, due to a defective video card; in that case, it is not repairable; it appears that the video card overheated. If you have onboard/integrated graphics, try using those. I should mention that, if you are using Windows, then it could be because of a missing file; if you are using Windows, try reinstalling it (as your last resort).|||Its most likely fried, or try to remove the card from its slot, clean the area (using canned air) and make sure there is nothing stopping the fan, clean of dust, and if possible, try another slot. Dell computer wiped clean, video card problems 10 points first answer that helps?

we are having problem with a computer, everything is too big and it won't run properly because of it. it was wiped clean because it was having problems (not sure exactly what but i know it was slow) and it won't read the monitor, or even that there is one. anyone know of anything we can do? thanks in advance!|||I would believe that "too big" is caused by the computer booting in Safe Mode, or otherwise without video drivers loading. Safe Mode doesn't load any but the most basic drivers, so your video resolution would have been for a very small monitor, and would make things appear "too big".

I'll be popping back in from time to time today to help you out as much as I can. Talk to ya again soon!

===============================

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "too big". If you can clarify that, I can probably be of better assistance. (I'll keep an eye on this page and edit my answer here as needed.)

The first thing I'd suggest is ensuring that everything is indeed plugged into the correct place. (I recently helped a fellow that was having a problem with his computer, and it turned out he was plugging a cable into something that shouldn't have had anything plugged into it.)

From there, I would recommend adding details to your question here about what video card (make, model, slot type, etc) you're using.

Remove the video card from the system, and plug the monitor directly into the motherboard's video port. Attempt to boot the computer that way. Post back here to let me know if the computer is bootable, and/or if you are hearing any sort of beep codes. (If you do hear any beeps, keep track of how many long and short beeps there are. Report those here also.)

The object here is to make sure the computer is still usable, and something about it isn't completely fubar'd. If we can get to the BIOS and/or install windows using the onboard video, we can install the video card afterwards. (Meaning I'll be back to reply to any edits you make to this question.)

Am I having a video card problem?

I was playing an online game last night when it froze. Windows and ctrl+alt+del all froze. So I did a hard shut down from on/off button. When I rebooted, windows came up properly but there was no video. I switched monitors, still no video. Is it possible my video card blew out? I found no signs of distress when I opened it up.|||How did you know that Windows came up properly if there was no video???

Did you see the bios stuff at the start? If you did, then there was video, if not then you may well have a bad card. But since you can't see it, how do you know that it was really coming up? If you could see it, then the card is probably not bad. If you couldn't see it, then it might be something else, such as the motherboard. You don't really know.

Okay, if you can see the bios stuff, can you boot into safe mode (hit F8 or whatever your computer tells you to do)? If you can see safe mode, but you couldn't see the main Windows screen, then you have a driver problem. You need to download the latest driver for your video card and install it according to its directions.

If you can't boot into safe mode, but can still see the bios stuff, then it looks like Windows is bad. Try to put in the Windows disk and tell it to do a repair.

If you can't see anything at all, then remove the video card. Lightly use an eraser on all the contacts, and re-insert. Maybe it will work now.

If you still can't see anything, then you have to troubleshoot. Trying a different video card or using yours on another computer is one way of troubleshooting the video card and will answer definitively whether the problem is the video card or not. It might be all sorts of problems, including the motherboard and cpu.|||well if you heard sound and there was no video the screen was completely black only "no signal" showed up then yes you blew your video card i would sugest buying one for around 50 dollars if yours blew during and online game it has to be bad so even one for 20 dollars would be a big improvement gewt nvidea or ati randeon|||yes it's possible.

To check, use a different video card, or use this video card on another computer.

Video Card Problems!?

Ok, i just bought the NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 PCI video card and i installed it on my computer and everything. I have an EMachines T2893 computer, everything standard. So here's my story, after installing the card and the drivers and everything that came with it, i disabled the onboard graphics card, rebooted it then connected the VGA Monitor cable to the card and it shows up with half a black screen and half of a yellow screen. if anyone can give me the steps to fix this i will really appreciate it.|||Hi there! Did you install the drivers before or after the installation of the video card? Did the new video card work before the onboard video was disabled? Also, double check on the "tightness" of the newly installed card. Make sure that it is fully inserted into the PCI slot with all connectors touching to the PCI slot. Also, make sure it is screwed in securely with no loose movements. If you installed drivers after the card was installed, install them before.

Let me know how it goes!
