Installing video card problem?

I just recently bought a good geforce 9600gt vid card for my pc. The instructions just tell me to basically take out old video card and then put in new one then reconnect all cables and start the computer. So i take out my old one, and fit in the new card right into the slot. Reconnect everything and then when I turn on my computer, a loud beeeeep noise goes on that sounds sorta like a smoke detector until i turn off my computer. the screen remains black and none of my computer accessories (mouse, keyboard, w/e) dont respond as well. Would anyone know what that beep means and any tips of why it might not be working? I have the correct slot for it and im pretty sure i fit it in perfectly. The instructions dont give **** and all it does is give tips of charging the video card which i know doesnt apply to this. im obviously not much of a computer wizard but ive installed other parts before like ram and sound card but this is just beyond me. Thanks for any help.|||This means one of two things. Your card is dead on arrival, or your card isnt correctly receiving power. Chances are you just got a dead card. Call the place where you bought it from for a refund. Most places will take care of this no questions asked. Other things you can try just in case would be check that you have your card connected to your power supply correctly, and check that your power supply meets the minimum requirements for that videocard. |||The beep means either a) it doesn't work with your computer or b) you installed it wrong. Make sure all connections are snug and the card is inserted completely into the motherboard and such.|||Its possible that you caused a spark of static electricity that ruined the card. Did you discharge all static electricity from your body, install the card on a hard surface free from static (not a carpet!!!), and did you make sure you didn't remove the card from its anti-static packaging that it should have been in until you were about to put it in? |||Video card is required for the computer to get pass the POST (startup) sequences. If video card or memory modules are missing, then it will beep like that. Try taking it out and putting it back in. Might not be full seated in there. I had a problem like that, computer kept beeping. I finally through trial and error got it working by simply pushing down on the video card. It looked like it was all the way in there, but I felt one corner go down like 1 mm. After that it started.|||That beep is telling you something is wrong (but you probably already knew that!) Not all cards are compatible with all PCs. I would download and run the free Belarc Advisor, print out the first page of the report and call the maker of the card. When they ask you about your PC you will be able to tell them more about it because of the Belarc report.
