PCI-Express Video Card problem?

i need to buy a PCI-Express Video Card but im not sure because my sysstem info says 1 x PCI-Express slot and im not sure,do i have to take out the one which came with the mother board, not sure what to do reli

My PC is Dell dimension 3100|||If it has 1 pci-x slot then you can fit a pci-x graphics card in there....I don't think you actually have a graphics card installed right now...the 3100 was more of a budget model that has an onboard graphics chip on the motherboard. Intel extreem or something sound familiar?

It's good that you at least have a pci-x though....you can just pop a card in that slot and disable the onboard graphics|||I think you'll find its an (onboard)

Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator GMA 900

meaning you should be able to put a stand alone one in.

you can always go to pc world tell them what you have, and what card it will take then look around for a cheaper one.|||Your PC as 1 PCI slot if you have onboard video this may be an empty slot and all you need to do is fit your new card and install the drivers If you already have a PC1 card installed you will need to take it out and replace it with the new one.

I have put my website up for you it as a few help pages that may be usefull

good luck|||You do not need to buy a PCI-e video card in order to play

Need for Speed or Grand Theft Auto.

You need a directX9 card with a minimum of 64Mb.

nVidia or Radeon will do the trick - other chipsets may not.

Don't be misled by the PCI-e x1 slot - cards for this are few and far between.

They are mostly inadequate, expensive and unavailable.

Given the limitations of your motherboard, a PCI graphics card would provide the most available solution:

http://www.scan.co.uk/ list a number of PCI graphics cards on their site - the FX5200s are usually out of stock, but you could consider the R9250 (not the MX4000 or the R7000)...

http://www.dabs.com/ have a 256Mb nVidia GeForce 6200 available for £47.56 The second link below has comments on it from Dell owners - this looks like the card for the job.

It's not a breathtakingly fast card, but it's available, and it will meet your needs.

Good Luck whatever you decide...|||you dont need to open up your pc to find out what hardware you have got. get some kind of system info tool like sandra 2007. i think its free from memory. its will be handy when you change other components as well because it will give you a full review of whats in your system.|||Hello,

(ANS) Sys info is saying your DELL has x1 PCI slot inside the machine, the only question you now need to answer is. Is the PCI slot empty i.e. not in use by hardware or is the slot already being used by something i.e. perhaps your current graphics card.

**No! either way whats important is that you have a PCI slot inside the machine, so you can buy a PCI express video card and if the slot "IS" empty thats easy install the new card. If the slot is being used, you will have to physically remove the current/old hardware before you can install the new card in its place.

I hope that all makes sense?

**NOTE: Sys info is abit limited, I recommend a freeware program called Belarc Advisor its a fantastic tool for profiling your hardware & software. A quick search via Yahoo or Google should find it for you (sorry cannot recall the URL).

Best Regards Ivan
